A counterflow heat exchanger only exchanges the air; it doesn't exchange moisture or odor. Extract and supply air ducts are completely separated to prevent any leakage. The counterflow heat exchanger has no moving parts, which means there is less risk of it breaking. It also has same, or better efficiency as the rotating heat echanger.
The HRV unit stands for Heat, Recovery, and Ventilation. It is designed to take advantage of the heat in outgoing ventilation air. A heat recovery unit saves you energy and money by heating the cold air in the heat exchanger before it reaches your rooms. This makes for a better indoor climate without using much more energy. A well-balanced ventilation system also includes filters that catch pollen, dust, and other similar things thereby making your house's air quality much better than what it would be otherwise.
There are three primary ventilation types: A natural ventilation system, air extraction system or HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilation) system. One of the primary purposes of ventilation is to help make sure your home is always full of fresh air.
