How to Choose the Right Flexible Duct?

Although all flexible ducts perform the function of air transport, they differ in their construction, materials, and primary purpose. The right choice is essential to ensure the system's efficiency, airtightness, quiet operation, and longevity. Our assortment offers solutions for every stage of a ventilation system.

Main Types of Flexible Ducts

The ducts we offer can be divided into several main groups based on their properties and application:

  • Non-Insulated Flexible Ducts: This is the simplest and most economical solution for transporting air within indoor spaces where there is no temperature difference and no risk of condensation.
    • Aluminium (e.g., Compact, Drasuten®): Sturdy, made of corrugated aluminum band. The Drasuten® model additionally features metal sleeves for convenient connection.
    • Steel (e.g., FE): Made of galvanized steel, characterized by greater rigidity.
    • PVC and Combi (e.g., KF, REC Flex Combi): Made of PVC or layers of aluminum and polyester, they are extremely flexible and lightweight.
  • Insulated Flexible Ducts: These ducts have an additional insulation layer (mineral wool, glass wool, or polyethylene) and are necessary where heat loss must be avoided or protection against condensation is required.
    • Acoustically Insulated (e.g., REC Flex Sono): Specialized ducts whose primary function is sound attenuation. The inner layer is often perforated to allow sound to be effectively absorbed by the insulation.
    • Thermally Insulated (e.g., REC Flex Iso 250): Designed for applications where higher temperature air is transported (up to +250°C) or where thermal insulation is particularly important.
    • Anti-Condensation (e.g., REC Flex Kondi): Have a thinner polyethylene insulation layer designed to protect against condensation in cool air supply ducts.

What to Consider When Choosing?

  • Purpose: Will the duct be used only for air transport, or is sound attenuation, thermal insulation, or condensation protection also required?
  • Temperature: Evaluate the temperature of the air the duct will transport. Most ducts are suitable for standard ventilation, but higher temperatures require specialized ducts, such as the REC Flex Iso 250.
  • Installation Location: Will the duct be installed in a warm or cold zone (e.g., an unheated attic)? Always use only insulated ducts in cold zones to prevent condensation and heat loss.
  • Diameter and Length: Choose the duct according to the diameter and required length specified in your ventilation project.
